Ascent of Alphubel

In the earlier days the fully glaciated East flank was the normal route on Alphubel, and today it is still the easiest route on the mountain. But since the end of the 1970'ies the South-east ridge has become the preferred ascent route, and at the same time one of the more elegant routes as well, following a snow ridge winding its way up to the summit plateau. Right below this plateau the route climbs a minor ice face, which in former days stretched all the way across the ridge and could be rather difficult to cross. But as you will see this ice face no longer causes serious problems.
