An intro to the Alps

As a preparation for the planned expedition to Makalu in 1997, a very important part of the teambuilding was to make a series of trips together, in all directions of the team, so we this way could get to know each other better. Karsten Holm was one of the guys being part of the team during the planning phase, and as summer 1996 had passed without him coming to the Alps, I found that I better had to introduce Karsten to the mountains. Karsten was a well-hung muscular guy, sure enough of himself to handle the physical challenges that might come when climbing a mountain, but as early as during the hut approach he realized that ascending with a rucksack for several hours was something quite different than pumping iron.
