Mainzer Höhenweg



After climbing 600 metres I reached Weissmaurachjoch at the north-east foot of Puitkogel. So far the trail had been quite easy to walk, not claiming any difficulties at all. But as soon as I left Weissmaurachjoch behind, things abruptly changed. During this day I was to cross three glaciers, and the access to the first appeared to be a nasty, steep and lose rubbish chute, certainly secured with a steel cable, but still... This demanded a test attempt down and up before I dared to descend the chute with my full pack.
