The roof of the Alps



I returned to the hut, and wondered what else there was to do. The time wasn't three in the morning yet, and weather was too fine for not being turned to account. So as there except for Aiguille de Bionnassay was only one more peak to climb from this hut, namely Mont Blanc, I impulsively decided that now it was time for this peak. Three hours later, just as it was starting to dawn, I passed the blackouted Goûter Hut and continued along the wide snow ridge, looking like a row of dunes high above the dark sea.
