Hiking on Pilgrimsleden

At Håverud there is a gap of ten metres between the two sides of the locks, and the height difference has to be overcome through a narrow ravine. There is not much room here, and the problem was solved by digging the canal on a rocky shelf on one side of the ravine, leading the canal onto a bridge to the other side of the rapids, to surmount the height difference through a system of locks. Some kind of engineering achievement, and today the canal bridge is extended with both a railroad and a highway bridge.
