New Year on Verte

With my own eyes, I saw Aiguille Verte for the first time in 1983, when I, after having crossed Col d'Argentière from the Swiss side, was forced to descend on the French side because of increasing avalanche danger on the Swiss side. On this occasion I for the first time became acquainted with the even more impressive North Face, the highest facet in the famous Argentière Wall, stretching for several kilometres from Verte to Triolet. That it would be possible, one day to climb this wall, was at that time out of the question, but when I in 1988 returned to climb Aiguille d'Argentière, I could not avoid setting my eyes on the very beautiful couloir, which with a height of more than a thousand metres lead directly to the summit: Couloir Couturier.
