From Arun to Barun

In 1997 I went on my third and so far largest expedition to Nepal. After nosing about the big mountains in 1988, when I climbed two 5000'ers, followed by a second trip in 1990, when I climbed two 6000'ers, among them the first Danish ascent of the Central Summit of Mera Peak, time was now ripe for making an attempt on a 8000'er. Makalu was the target, and with a strong and versatile team, we travelled to Nepal in September. And after a week in Kathmandu to buy the supplies and do the paperwork we flew to Tumlingtar, the start of the 155 km long walk-in to Base Camp.
