| After two days' travelling on deserted highways I filled the car up one last time in Van Horn and drove the last 65 miles across the plains to Guadalupe Mountains. Most of this part of Texas is flat and deserted, but right here the mountains, actually an old coral reef, rises about a mile above the surrounding plains. |
