| On the second day we reached the Shira plateau and camped at the first place possible, called 'Shira One'. On the last part of that stage we had been hiking around the northern spurs of Shira, and suddenly Kilimanjaro appeared ahead. Our guide had just said that we were just one hour away from the camp, but at the sight of a snowclad mountain I had a devil to pay, and at a smart trot we reached the camp in only 20 minutes. |
