| This also was what we did that year, and to minimize the risk of drowning in snow we went to the southernmost part of the Alps, which still had a 4000-metre peak, which was Gran Paradiso on the south side of the Aosta valley in Italy. We were four men on this trip, and I was the only one who already had climbed the highest peak in the massive, as I in 1997 had climbed it with Rune Klausen before I had continued to Makalu. So I knew that this would be a doable trip. |
