Attempt on Athabasca

Just as much it was the tradition that my partner on these attempts of ascending a mountain was the Portuguese delegate José Basto, so that we, with his words, could put 'meetaineering' behind us and focus on what it all was about, say mountaineering. We parked at the barrier, which now was blocking the access to Athabasca, packed the last stuff in the rucksacks and then walked up to the mountain. It was a very eerie feeling to walk here, forty kilometres from the nearest habitation and look down on the deserted snow-clad highway, where there only was one car left behind.
