West of Grand Combin

The train took us up to Orsières, where we continued by bus up to Bourg St-Pierre, a small town, which already in the times of the Romans had a great importance, as this village was the last outpost in the valley leading up to the strategic important pass of Sanct Bernard. And seen from the Romans' point of view Bourg St-Pierre was the first village they came to when they crossed the border into Helvetia.
