| This separate summit was Mount Democrat, which with an elevation of 4312 metres was the lowest of the four surrounding Kite Lake. But even though this summit was somewhat more than 4000 metres high there was no permanent ice or glacier on the mountain. Although it was clearly enough that there had been a glacier on the mountain in previous times, it was undoubtesly a glacier which in the old days had carved the cwm where Kite Lake was today. |
