Snow caving in Estergebirge

Night was coming on as we reached Krottenkopfhaus in just below 2000 meters. Here we had planned to spend the night before morrow's climb, but we soon found out that the winter room was locked. Luckily we were prepared for this case, and thus had brought equipment for sleeping in a snow cave instead. On the back side of the hut we found a suitable snowdrift where we could dig our snow cave. Unfortunately there was a little lack of snow, so to make the cave deep enough, we had to enlarge the cave by buiding an extension at the entrance, enabling us to close the cave. And when once we had the last snow block in place, sealing the entrance and coming out of the wind, it was actually quite cosy.
