Hiking on Pilgrimsleden

As indicated by the name, Pilgrimsleden is an old pilgrim trail, which was used from about year 1050 to 1550, when the pilgrims arrived by boat at Vänern to travel north to the grave of the Blessed Olov in Nidaros, today known as Trondheim, Later other activities were taking place in the region, and in the second half of the 17th century the Dalsland Canal was built to create an easy connection between the many lakes in Dalsland. In the meantime the canal has lost its industrial importance, but today it is a major tourist attraction, and already on the second hiking day we left Pilgrimsleden to take a view of the famous lock system in Håverud.
