| Königssee is almost 200 metres deep at the deepest, and even though parts of the lake always freeze at wintertime, it is only occasionally that the ice is solid enough to walk on. But when in February 1982 I was on an extended weekend trip to Berchtesgaden with my mountain friend Gerhard Boemke and his wife Elke, and it at the same time was rumoured that the lake had just been given free to traffic, we necessarily had to go down and enjoy the joys of winter with hundreds of the locals. |
